Dr. Viecilli hobbies are not the only things with a wide variety in his life. From cooking, fragrance collecting, weightlifting, traveling and reading philosophy on his free time his background in education and the way he made it to where he is today goes much deeper than that. A doctor who trained as an undergraduate in Aerospace Engineering, (also known as rocket science) is not the average storyline for your orthodontist next door. Brazil is where his journey of orthodontics began, while attending dental school there, he completed his very first Orthodontic training. As a resident, he published a paper in the American Journal of Orthodontics as the sole author. His paper was held in such high regard that he was invited to pursue a Ph.D. in Oral Biology (Biomechanics) and attend residency in the US at Indiana University. (Yes, Dr. Viecilli is a double trained Orthodontist) He studied the effect of genetics and mechanical stimulation on tooth movement and cell biochemistry.
He is one of two orthodontists from Indiana to win the prestigious Milo Hellman Award. The highest North American research award in Orthodontics is shared only by the most prominent scientists in the specialty. He is also the only Orthodontist from Indiana to ever complete every American Board of Orthodontics patient case requirements within two years. During that residency, he treated 6 high difficulty cases with excellence. One of his cases was chosen for display in the American Association of Orthodontists meeting as exemplary for all Orthodontists to analyze. Due to this he was then approved as a prospective member of the Angle Society of Orthodontists and has been board certified since 2011.
Soon afterward, Dr. Viecilli took faculty positions at New York University College of Dentistry and Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. In which he trained hundreds of dentists in orthodontists for over 8 years. Dr. Viecilli is still a Professor and lecturer in both schools. As a result of his many achievements such as 25+ peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and much of his scientific work; he is considered by his peers one of the world’s experts in Orthodontic Biomechanics. He often lectures regularly at the American Association of Orthodontists meetings and other orthodontic associations in all continents to help further his knowledge to other professionals like himself. In addition to many accomplishments, he became the inventor of the single most sophisticated orthodontic wire ever designed, The Smartarch. Following the success of his wire, he played a part in devising multiple technologies with Invisible aligner treatment (such as Invisalign).
He loves the challenge of treating patients of all ages and has extensive experience with Invisible Aligners and surgically assisted accelerated Orthodontics and Lingual Orthodontics. He aims to continue his track record of excellence by providing the Austin community with outstanding orthodontic treatment to provide the best aesthetic outcome for his patients utilizing the most efficient and scientific treatment possible.
