Jose Varela

Dr. Jose Varela believes in providing dental care that meets the individual needs of each of his patients. Dr. Varela attended the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, where he graduated in 2008. He realized he wanted to work in the dental field after working with Navy dentists while serving his last year of active duty in the US Marines. He initially became a dental hygienist, and eventually made his way to become a dentist when he went back to University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Dentistry and graduated with his dentistry degree in 2019.

Dr. Varela thoroughly enjoys meeting new people while caring for their dental health. He became a dentist because he likes the art and science behind modern technologies, which provides dentists with a wide array of skills to help their patients, from something as simple as restoring their teeth or reconstructing their mouth and enhancing their quality of life, to taking their pain away when they suffer from a severe toothache. Dr. Varela believes dentistry is a thoroughly fulfilling career.

As a father of two young boys, Dr. Varela understands how important it is to provide children with a meaningful yet enjoyable first experience at the dentist. It is important for dentists to convey trust and comfort to both the parents and their children every time they visit. He also enjoys working with his military patients. As a veteran himself, he finds it easy to relate to other active duty or veterans, and as they have lived through similar life experiences, he says it is an honor to treat them like family.

Dr. Varela continues his education in pediatrics, advanced restorative dentistry, endodontics, and Invisalign. He was part of the North Carolina Dental Society, the American Dental Association, and the Durham Orange Dental Society. He has also volunteered at Vida’s de Esperanza in Siler City, Wake Smiles in Raleigh, and North Carolina Missions of Mercy. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, watching sports, and spending the weekend with his family. Dr. Varela’s favorite words to live by are, “Do unto others as you would have them unto you.”
